REQUEST: The Fire Department requests that the City Commission review The City of
Winter Springs Employee Blood Drive information to be held at the Winter
Springs branch of the Central Florida Blood Bank, Badcock Plaza.
PURPOSE: The purpose ofthis item is to assure that the City Commission is informed of all
the pertinent details regarding this activity.
CONSIDERATIONS:
. The donation of blood helps to assure an adequate and safe supply of blood and blood
products to the community.
. The employees of the City of Winter Springs have for 21 years maintained a blood
reserve account with the Central Florida Blood Bank. Last year when the bloodmobile
scheduled a visit to the City, 53 participants registered for the blood drive, and 48 pints of
blood was collected.
. Employees are encouraged to donate blood and are given the opportunity to donate during
their workday.
. Other interested individuals may also donate blood during this scheduled time, and no
one will be turned away. This does include elected officials, friends, and neighbors.
. The goal for this drive has been set at collecting 50 pints of blood.

FUNDING:
No additional funding is required for this activity.
RECOMMENDATION:
DONATE BLOOD DURING THE WEEK
OF APRIL 15 THRU APRIL 19, 2002.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Employees will be able to drop by at their convenience during this week. The blood bank hours
are Mon., Wed., Fri., 9:00am 'til 5:00pm, and Tues., Thu., 11 :OOam 'til 7:00pm.
