PROCLAMATION
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, Florida's firefighters have long been our heroes, risking their lives daily for the safety and
well-being of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, firefighters across Florida and our Nation have been on a life-saving mISSIOn against
neuromuscular disease and have been a Sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for over 50 years;
and
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2004, after providing rescue and relief efforts to hundreds of Florida's
communities hit by four hurricanes, Florida's firefighters rescheduled their signature "Fill the Boot" fundraising
events for MDA; and
WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association salutes Florida firefighters for prevailing under difficult
circumstances and honoring their annual commitment to Florida's citizens battling muscular dystrophy and Lou
Gehrig's disease; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Florida's firefighter's raised over $1,295,000, assIstmg MDA in providing
uninterrupted medical services, clinic visits, support groups, research and summer camps at no cost to Florida's
children and adults served by the Association; and
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2004, Florida firefighters, in the spirit if true heroes, rallied behind Operation
Rebound and continued to maintain their position as number two in the Nation on rankings for MDA; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting for all Floridians to join the Muscular Dystrophy Association in this tribute to our
heroes, Florida firefighters.
NOW THEREFORE, I, JOHN F. BUSH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS do
hereby proclaim April 3 through April 9, 2005as a Day of Recognition in honor of
~FLORIDA FIREFIGHTER APPRECIATION WEEK~
And remind citizens to give generously when firefighters request local citizens to donate money to the
Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill the Boot campaign.
