Authorization
REQUEST: The Information Services Department wishes to update the
City Commission on the upgrade of employment status of
City PC Technician, from part time to full time.
PURPOSE:
To update the City Commission on the status of the City's PC
Technician from part time to full time.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Information Services has utilized an Ameritek systems engineer on
site for a number of years. In an effort to be more cost-effective, the
Ameritek engineer was replaced by a part time PC technician, Bruce
Tegg, in October 2001. It is more cost effective to have a PC
technician doing necessary everyday tasks at a lower rate of pay than
that of a Systems Engineer. The services of Ameritek will continue to
be used on an as-need basis only.
In the past year, calls to the Information Services Help Desk have
increased over 64% per month on average. The reasons are many.
Aging equipment, new equipment installs, the Munis/Kiva project,
among other things such as the standard, everyday technical support
calls. In FY 200 I the Help Desk logged 4,630 calls, an average of
386 per month. So far in FY 2002, we have had 2538 Help Desk
Request, an average of 635 requests per month (October 2001 -
January 2002).

Technician position from part-time to full-time. In addition to his
normal technician duties, Bruce will be filling the role as Media

requested. He will operate all audiovisual and computer equipment as
needed for these meetings. He will also be utilized as an 1.S. in-house
trainer, 1.S. Documentation Coordinator, as well as assist in project
management of some 1.S. projects. Bruce has a background in Media.
He has worked for NBC as a Master Control Switcher, cameraman,
