REQUEST:
Public Works Department Request Approval to Purchase
Brick Pavers for the Blumberg Boulevard/ Town Center
Trail from Pavers Systems.
PURPOSE:
To request approval to pre-purchase the required brick pavers from Pavers
Systems for the Blumberg Boulevard! Town Center Trail Project for
$49,473.98.
CONSIDERA TIONS:
This agenda item is needed to ensure the required materials are available to avoid
delay to the Blumberg Boulevard improvements. Paver Systems pavers were used in the
construction of the Town Center Streetscapes project constructed in 2004. The same
paver colors and city lock pattern used on the pedestrian crossing landing in the Blumberg
Boulevard median east of the Magnolia Square fountain has been chosen to be used
leading up to the Veterans Memorial and as a matching feature on the western trail end at
Doran Boulevard.
These pavers were only manufactured by Paver Systems. Currently Paver Systems
has discontinued this paver but will bring it back into production to allow the City to
Complete the Town Center Project. For the pavers to be manufactured, Paver Systems
must schedule them for production by the end of July for the pavers to be ready in the

scheduled September production run. If the pavers are not scheduled for the September
production run, the order will have to be scheduled for the production runs in the spring of
2007.
The pavers selected for the remainder of the trail were chosen to match or
compliment the city lock pattern. These are considered specialty pavers and are also not
part of Paver Systems regular production runs and are only produced twice a year. For
the City to obtain the required quantity and colors chosen, these must also be ordered in
July to be ready for September.
The availability of the pavers in September will coincide with the current project
schedule for the construction of the Blumberg Trail. The quantity of pavers has been
provided by the architect and checked by Paver Systems to ensure the quantities are
corrected. A waste factor of 10% has also been included to ensure there will be enough
pavers to complete the job and have replacements for any pavers damaged in the future.
FUNDING:
Funding for the purchase of these pavers is budgeted in this year's budget under
line code 305-65000-30045
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The PublicW orks Department recommends approval to pre-purchase pavers for
the Blumberg Boulevard! Town Center Trail from Pavers Systems for $49,473.98.
