HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 02 25 Consent C Upgrades to Sunshine Park COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM C CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR 2/25/2002 Meeting MGR. f--- IDEPT cQ Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting the City Commission approval to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for upgrading accessibility, restrooms, building and parking of Sunshine Park and authorize the City Manager to apply for this grant on behalf of the City of Winter Springs. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to apply for potential Grant Funds in the amount of $ 429,324.10 to upgrade accessibility, restroom, building and parking at Sunshine Park. CONSIDERATIONS: . Parks and Recreation conducts a summer recreation program, various classes and programs and rents the Civic Center facility for public usage. The Senior Center conducts many programs and activities for the senior citizens. . The Civic Center building is over 30 years old and in need of many renovations. . Improvements include demolition of exiting bathroom, new paving, re-surfacing and re-striping. Construction of a new restroom/storage building behind the Civic and Senior Center. Renovate Civic Center restrooms, flooring, walls, ceiling, HV AC, roof, lighting and power, signage, entry and office space, automatic doors, and new electric stove, ice machine, freezer, refrigerator, and sinks. Senior Center automatic doors and signage. . Upgrading the accessibility, restrooms, building and parking at Sunshine Park is eligible for potential CDBG funding. 1 . Staff is in the process of completing all the required grant exhibits in order to meet the March 8, 2002 grant deadline. FUNDING: N/A RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending that the City Commission approve this application of a Community Development Block Grant and authorize the City Manager to apply for the grant on behalf of the City of Winter Springs.
