COMMISSION PRESENTATION "Meals on Wheels, Etc. " June 25. 2001 Meeting Mgr. tV; Dept. Authorization REQUEST: The City Manager requesting the Commission, to be updated by Director of Community Relations Teresa Rose, Meals on Wheels Etc. on the agency's name change, , and new and expanding programs Meals on Wheels provides to the seniors of Seminole . County and to ask for continued support from the City of Winter Springs. PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to provide the Commission with an update of the changing and expanding programs provided to the seniors Seminole County by Meals on Wheels Etc., and ask the City of Winter Springs' continued support of this effort. RECOMMENDA TION: The City Manager recommends the Commission be updated and decide whether it desires to support the efforts of Meals on Wheels Etc. ATTACHMENTS: Teresa Rose Letter of June 4,2001. Opportunities for people of all ages + Share your time and talent + Recruitment and training occurs on a regular basis Volunteers are the eyes and ears of Meals on Wheels Etc. Because of their daily, personal contact with clients, they are in the best position to observe the physical well~being of Meals on Wheels recipients. Delivering meals only requires about 2 hours one day per week. O ~her voluntee~ opportunities mclude Shoppmg Assistance, Chore Service, Food Service and Gift Donations. Instead of flowers, family and friends may send donations to Meals on Wheels Etc. in memory of a loved one. Your will is your last opportunity to do something nice for those you love and it is an opportunity to do something nice for programs that help other people. Ai; the "baby boomer" generation ages, they will depend more heavily upon the community to help meet their needs. Meals on Wheels Etc. began with a Meals on Wheels and transportation program in 1973. Since that time, the needs of the senior community have grown, and the agency has responded with a continuum of necessary services to support this growth. Drograms are funded by grants from 1- local and federal governments, United Way, civic organizations, businesses, foundations, client contributions and individual donations.
