HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 06 11 Consent D Tarcaso Park Exapansion/ Improvements COMMISSION AGENDA CONSENT x INFORMATIONAL ITEM D PUBLIC HEARING June 11. 2001 Meeting REGULAR MGR.// IDEPT & Autho'rization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting the City Commission Approval of a letter from the Mayor and City Commission to Seminole County supporting funding the proposed Torcaso Park Expansion/Improvements. PURPOSE: To provide written comment supporting the proposed CDBG funding for Torcaso Park Expansion/Improvements to Seminole County. CONSIDERATIONS: · On February 26, 2001, The City Commission approved the application ofa CDBG Grant for Torcaso Park Expansion and Improvements in the amount of $ 485,080.00, which includes mitigation, clearing, fill, a 60 car parking, a full size football/soccer field, sidewalk, splash playground, walkway lighting, landscape irrigation, environmental design and permitting, AlE design and permitting and project contingency. · County staff has recommended the allocation of funds for FY 2001/2002 to the Torcaso Park Expansion/Improvements in the amount of $ 485,000.00. · There is a 30-day public comment period (May 27, 2001 to June 21, 2001) and a written comment from the Mayor and City Commission would be helpful. FUNDING: None Required. RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending that the City Commission approve the request for a letter from the Mayor and City Commission supporting funding the proposed Torcaso Park Expansion/Improvements. 1 IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: . Draft letter, sign and forward to the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners prior to June 26, 2001. . July 26, 2001 County Commission votes on proposed funding. . August - September contracts prepared and sent for execution. . October 1, 2001 funding available to begin project. The City of Winter Springs has expended over $ 385,000.00 in the past year to make improvements to Torcaso Park, which is now heavily used by the neighboring residents. The proposed CDBG project will expand the park and provide a much needed football/soccer playing field, expanded parking, sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and a splash playground for the neighborhood to enjoy. The residents of Lori Ann Lane and Cory Lane are very excited and look forward to the expansion and improvements. The City of Winter Springs appreciates your support. .
