Authorization
REQUEST: The Utility Department is requesting Authorization to Purchase One (1) Harben
Truck Mounted Jetting Machine used for Sewer Cleaning and Blockage Removal
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to receive authorization for the purchase and installation
of a Harben Truck Mounted Sewer Jetting equipment Model No. 4018DSHS600 for
$48,230.00.
CONSIDERA TIONS:
The purpose of this Board item is to request authorization to replace existing
equipment originally purchased and in service since 1991. This piece of equipment is
needed to maintain our smaller waste water lines in confined areas safely and efficiently
reducing the impact to private property. The reduced noise pollution and man power needs
in after hours operations are essential to maintain unobtrusive high quality service to our
residents. The cost of this equipment includes installation on a Ford F-550 that was
approved by the commission on 2/13/06 Consent Agenda Item 406.
Prices were solicited from three sources for this equipment with the manufacturer,
Harben Florida, Inc., being the lowest at $48,230. The existing high pressure cleaner is also
a Harben which will be used as a backup. Purchasing from the same manufacturer provides
advantages in maintenance routines, service familiarity and parts stocking.
FUNDING:
The equipment purchase of $48,230.00 is within the $80,000.00 budgeted (chassis
was $25,599) for the truck and equipment replacement in Utility Department line code
3600-64100. Expenditure of the funds will occur within 90 to 120 days.
