Authorization REQUEST: Information Services wishes to furnish information to Commission regarding questions previously raised about the quality of the images on the City's LaserFiche document management system via Web Link. PURPOSE: To answer questions raised by two commissioners regarding the quality of scanned documents on the LaserFiche document management system when viewing via Web Link. CONSIDERATIONS: The City of Winter Springs uses LaserFiche as their document imaging system and repository. Several meetings ago, one commissioner inquired as to why the document images being viewed via Weblink were not as clear as he had expected they would be. Anther commissioner also commented that the images looked like faxes. Here are the results of the research. The quality of the actual tif image that resides on the LaserFiche system is of good clarity/quality; the discrepancy is with the viewer and the file size which makes it easier and takes less time to view. Citizens are able to view documents on the web using the LaserFiche Web Link viewer. The .png format is a format that is created on the fly and is 5 times smaller than the normal tif/tiff image. This method is necessary in order to increase the speed at which images are displayed and decreases the amount of bandwidth necessary to view the image. The advantage to this is that the user can browse through images quickly without having to download full image files which take more time and bandwidth. Once the user finds what he/she wants, the image can be downloaded/converted to a PDF via the PDF button in the Weblink browser. The user should find the quality of the PDF document more than satisfactory. FUNDING: None RECOMMENDATIONS: None ATTACHMENTS: COMMISSION ACTION:
