Home My WebLink About2001 09 10 Consent B Purchasing Car for School Resource Officer COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM B CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR September 10,2001 Meeting )1-* MGR /DEPT Authorization REQUEST: Police Department requesting the Commission to give approval to purchase the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle used at the Winter Springs High School from Aristocrat Volkswagen. PURPOSE: To inform and seek the consent of the Commission to purchase a 2001 V olkswagen Beetle that was provided by Aristocrat Volkswagen and used by the School Resource Officer at Winter Springs High School. Once purchased the Beetle will be used by the School Resource Officer at Winter Springs Elementary and Highland Elementary Schools. CONSIDERATIONS: In September 2000 Aristocrat Volkswagen provided the use of a Volkswagen Beetle to the Winter Springs Police Department to be used at Winter Springs High School by the School Resource Officer. Aristocrat Volkswagen provided the use of the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle at no expense to the City. It is scheduled to be replaced with a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta for another year at no expense to the city. The Beetle has been a very positive experience with the Community, the students of the schools, and with visitors to the City of Winter Springs. Since having this vehicle the School Resource Officer is often stopped just so people can see the vehicle and interact with the officer. The Police Department would like to purchase the Beetle to replace a current high mileage Crown Victoria that is used by the Elementary School Resource Officer. The Beetle can be purchased for $12,430,00 at no expenditure of city funds from the Special Law Enforcement Trust Fund. The vehicle has a 10 year / 100,00 mile warranty that would be effective at purchase, Under the current plan we could use this vehicle for years at the schools. By purchasing the Beetle the Police Department has the opportunity to obtain this vehicle at a reduced price and deliver quality service to the Community. FUNDING: Funding based upon Commission approval from the Special Law Enforcement Trust Fund. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the purchase of the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle from Aristocrat Volkswagen $12,430.00 IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: Immediately upon approval by Commission.
