Home My WebLink About2005 01 24 Consent 203 American Water Services Sanitary Sewer Line Rehab COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 203 CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR January 24,2005 Meeting MGR fl/IDEPT / ~ Authorization REQUEST: The Utility Department is requesting authorization to hire American Water Services to perform Sanitary Sewer Line Rehab by Piggybacking offVolusia County Project No. 02-B-203BB. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request authorization to piggyback off of Vol usia County Project No. 02-B-203BB with American Water Services for relining of sewer lines at a cost of $98,991.50. CONSIDERATIONS: This project is needed for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer collection system. The Utility Department budgets annually for sewer line rehabilitation. The U-Lining process, a trenchless technology, is the preferred method of rehabbing the sewer lines by the City. The U-Liner process is a folded high-density polyethylene pipe that is pulled through the existing sewer line and expanded and cured in place. No excavating, digging or restoration is required. The total amount of sanitary sewer pipe we intend to rehab at this time is 2,040 feet. The cost of relining the 8" per lineal foot is $35.00 totaling $48,335.00. The cost of relining thelO" sewer pipe we intend to rehab is $38.50 per lineal foot totaling $48,856.50. Reinstating 10 sewer laterals at a cost of$180.00 each is $1,800.00 the total cost will be $98,991.50. These pipes average 32 years old. The locations are a portion of Sheoah Circle from Dunbar Drive to Elgin Drive, Murphy Road near Panama Circle., Edgemon Avenue near Jackson Circle, and EI Camino Real in Hacienda Village. FUNDING: The Utility Department budgeted $100,000 in the Renewal and Replacement fund for sewer and manhole relining. The project cost of$98,991.50 will be paid from this fund. Funds will be expended over the next 90 days. January 24, 2005 Consent Agenda Item 203 Page 2 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that authorization be granted to piggyback offVolusia County Project No. 02-B-203BB with American Water Services for reconstruction of sewer lines at a cost of $98,991.50 payable from the Utility Renewal and Replacement line code (3610-65000- 30076).
