REQUEST:
Information Services wishes to inform the Commission of a
new program being rolled out from the City's web site that
will enable individuals to sign-up for emergency alerts from
the City.
PURPOSE:
To inform Commission on the upcoming rollout of the e-Alerts
program that will allow individuals to go to our City web site and sign
up to receive emergency alerts from the City.
CONSIDERATIONS:
What are eAlerts?
The eAlert system is an emergency email notification system that will allow the City of
Winter Springs to contact a list of residents/individuals in the event of an emergency. The
eAlert system will be used by Police, Fire, Public Works and City Hall to notify the
public of several types of alerts such as missing children alerts, loose criminal alerts,
major traffic tie ups, gas leaks, boil water notices, health alerts, school bomb threats or
emergency situations, hazardous Waste spills and hurricane warnings. The system will
grow as other alerts will be added as needed.

How do you sign up for eAlerts?
You will be able to sign up on our City website to receive the alerts which can be sent to
your email or to your cell phone (if your cell phone has the capability of receiving text
messages). *Cell phones that are capable of receiving text messages via an email
address will be able to use this system. However, your cell phone carrier may limit the
size of the messages that it is able to receive. The carrier may also add an additional
charge to the user's cell phone bill for receiving text messages. You should check with
your cell phone provider before signing up for this service via your cell phone email
address.
How many email addresses can I enter?
You can enter as many emails addresses as you would like such as your personal,
business, and school email addresses.
Can I unsubscribe from this service?
Yes, you will be able to unsubscribe to this service.
Can I select the types of alerts that I want to receive?
Yes, you will be able to select the type of eAlerts they would like to receive.
When will this system be available?
This system will be available on the City's web site on March 1,2006.

There is no cost for this project.
