AuthonzatlOn REQUEST: The Community Development Department - Planning Division informs the City Commission that there is a proposal to build a Wal-Mart Super Center near the northeast quadrant of the GreeneWay (S.R. 417) and Mitchell Hammock Road. BACKGROUND: Last year, Wal-Mart Stores East, Inc. approached the City of Oviedo requesting to build a "Super Center" store at the GreeneWay and Mitchell Hammock Road intersection. Parcel 34 was originally in the Oviedo Mall DR! and subject to its requirements, but last year this parcel was removed from the DR! at the request of Wal-Mart. It was advantageous to Mal-Mart since they would not be subject to the stricter requirements. Wal-Mart approached the City of Oviedo to request approval of a large scale comprehensive plan amendment but the City refused to transmit the proposed amendment to DCA on August, 7, 2000 for a number of reasons. CURRENT REQUEST: Wal-Mart has approached the City again seeking the exact same request on the exact same parcels. No meeting has been scheduled before the Local Planning Agency or the City Council at this time.
