Authorization
REQUEST: Commissioner Cindy Gennell requesting the Commission to discuss
issue related to city elected officials becoming involved in real estate
transactions within the city.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to discuss the wisdom of city elected officials
being involved in real estate transactions within the city.
CONSIDERATION:
The State Ethics Law states that an elected official must recuse himself from
voting any proposal for which there is an economic gain or perception of an
econOffilC gatn.
At issue is the public perception of the Mayor and City Commissioner
promoting the city from their vantage point as an official of city government
and at the same time being involved in real estate transactions for which they
could be perceived as having an economic gain.
FUNDING: None Required.
RECOMMENDATION:
Discussion Only.
