HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 12 10 Public Input Edward Martinez, Jr.Date: December 10, 2007 This was provided to the City Clerk by Edward Martinez, Jr., under "Public Input" at the December 10, 2007 City Commission Regular Meeting to be distributed to the City Commission. OPEN LETTER TO THE COMMISSION On November 16~' I picked up a copy of the Seminole Chronicle and was aghast upon reading the editorial. It stated that our rookie Commissioner had made a motion calling for an investigation by the Attorney General into the dual membership of Commissioner Donald Gilmore as a City Commissioner and a Director with the Tuscawilla H O A. The Chronicle was not given all the facts and the people need to know. It appears that the rookie Commissioner is not versed on the City record and is only concerned with kicking off "campaign 2008". It is worse still when the entire Commission agreed with him and approved his request for a formal `OPINION' As some of the sitting Commissioners well know this issue was taken up in 2008 when the People for Bad Government rushed to nail me to the cross but failed miserably, as the rookie Commissioner will. A formal opinion by the State of Florida Ethics Commission is on file and was made part of the record back then. The Commission unwittingly proceeded to approve the request thus alerting the citizens of our community as to how badly the Commission is split. This was hypocritical when the Commissioner in question attempted to become a member of the T H O A in 2006 when a position became vacant and was rejected by the Board. This effort also was politically expedient. His second effort came in 2007 when he openly ran for the office of Director of the T H O A and the people of Tuscawilla rejected him, making his effort at staining Commissioner Gilmore record a mere political tactic to kick off the upcoming election campaign. In support of this theme I offer the fact that his former campaign manager; currently an active City of Winter Springs Board Member; Denise Ryser, recruited the individual who already opened up an account to run against Donald Gilmore and further more she was designated as Mr. Bonner's campaign consultant as published in the Orlando Sentinel for October 28, 2007. There is a power play in place to take over control of the Commission in order to uproot the present Administration, return to the pre 1997 tactics, and all for reasons that are not the best for the City and our constituents. As always, I am hopeful that the residents of Winter Springs look beyond the usual political rhetoric and evaluate the real reason behind a candidate's intent before voting in 2008. Keep your eyes and ears open for at a time of budget crisis some of the actors representing the folks are looking to anoint a certain individual to a position as Public Relations Manager with salary and perks to go with it. We already have a Public Relations person; Mayor John Bush who has represented and sold the City fairly well. Edwar mez Jr. Winter Springs, Fl. 32708
