HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000 06 12 Regular H Additional Screening and Buffering Along Boundaries of Moss Park COMMISSION AGENDA CONSENT INFORMATIONAL ITEM H PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR x 6/12/2000 Meeting REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department requests the City Commission give direction related to additional screening and buffering along the north and northwest boundaries of Moss Park. PURPOSE: The purpose ofthis request is to review the existing improvement plans for Moss Park and to give city staff direction related to the need for additional screening and buffering. Information is also provided to determine the cost of these additional improvements. ISSUE ANALYSIS: . The purpose of the Parks Improvement Program is to enhance neighborhood parks for park users. Parks are enhanced by the facilities within them for citizens to enjoy. . The Moss Park improvements are in the amount of $510,000.00 and include landscaping, hedge material and irrigation along the north and northwest park boundaries. . None of the ten (10) city owned parks have a wall which boundaries city property. Several parks have neighbors that have erected privacy fences on their properties adjacent to park boundaries. . SRI has estimated the cost of a 6 foot high wood fence extending 560 feet at $15,680.00 and I a 6 foot high brick wall at a cost of $47,680.00. FUNDING: NO ADDITIONAL FUNDING RECOMMENDED. RECOMMENDATION: The $510,000.00 to Moss Park greatly enhance the park. The irrigation along with hedge planting will, in time, provide adequate sight and sound buffering along the north and northwest property boundaries. The construction and funding for a wall by the city should not be done at this time.
