Home My WebLink About2007 06 25 Consent 201 Fire Sprinkler Alarm COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 201 CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR June 25, 2007 Meeting MGRR'" /DEPT CfJ- Authorization REQUEST: Fire Department and Information Services requesting authorization for fire sprinkler alarm monitoring for City facilities in an amount not to exceed $18,500. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Commission item is to gain Commission authority to authorize the City Manager to approve the work required for the monitoring of the fire sprinkler systems at City facilities for an amount not to exceed $18,500.00 ($17,355 + $1,145 contingency). CONSIDERATIONS: As part of our ongoing risk management assessment of our property and casualty insurance exposures with the Fire Department, we've become aware of some compliance issues throughout the City. Section 7-60(c) of the Code of Ordinances, City of Winter Springs Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems states that all buildings equipped with automatic sprinkler systems shall be required to have such systems monitored by a central station monitoring company. Currently eight City facilities with sprinkler systems are not monitored. The most cost efficient method of monitoring the eight City facilities is to add additional communications components to their various alarm panels and upgrade the monitoring software currently in the Police Department dispatch that monitors City Hall. These upgrades afford us a possible reduction in our insurance premiums and will bring the City in compliance with its own codes. This project utilizes current City vendors and will be coordinated by the Fire Department and the Information Services Department. FUNDING: The Fire Department and Information Services are requesting a supplemental appropriation for this project for an amount not to exceed $18,500 from the General Fund Reserves to be placed as follows: CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS CITY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING - JUNE 25, 2007 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM "205" PAGE20F2 RECOMMENDATION: Recommend the approval of the Commission for supplemental appropriations for this project for an amount not to exceed $18,500 from the General Fund Reserves. There are on-going phone line costs for the new Public Works facility in the amount of$19.25 per month. FY 2007 costs can be covered in the current budget without a supplemental appropriation. FY 2008 costs will be budgeted in FY 2008 telephone budget. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: Once approved by Commission, work would start as soon as vendors can be scheduled. Time frame for project completion is approximately 2 months which includes systems testing.
