REQUEST:
The General Services Department would like to present Michelle Richard, the
manager of the Census 2000 office in Sanford, who would like to make a brief
presentation regarding this year's census efforts.
PURPOSE:
The presentation by Mrs. Richard will provide current information about the
progress of the 2000 census.
CONSIDERATIONS:
- The Census taken by the federal government every ten years is a massive
undertaking, and requires the efforts of thousands of people nationwide.
It is very important that every resident respond to the Census in a timely and
accurately manner.
Federal programs and funds will be targeted for the next ten years based in
large measure on census data.
It is critical that the City Commission lend its support and endorsement to the
census efforts.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Commission instruct the City Attorney to
compose a resolution in support of the census efforts, for passage at the
Commission meeting of March 27, 2000.
