Authorization
REQUEST: Inform Commission of action taken by the Public Works Department in
delineating traffic calming islands.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to inform and advise the Commission of the steps
taken to define the curbing on traffic calming islands on Edgemon Avenue, and Sherry
Avenue, Wade Street.
CONSIDERA TIONS:
The curbing of the traffic calming island construction specified paint only, Due to the
inordinate amount of calls from motorists regarding visibility issues the Public Works
Department was directed to increase visibility, Yellow reflective pavement markers (RPM)
were placed in the vertical position at intervals of two (2) feet around traffic circle and around
ends of medians,
Placement in the vertical position that allows for two sides of reflection, versus
horizontal, that limits reflection to one side (top), Reflective tape placed on the non-reflective
front of the RPM allows for increased visibility, In addition, we requested Florida Power
Corporation to increase wattage of street lighting on Edgemon Avenue at existing lights and to
provide an additional street light at the intersection of Shepard Road and Edgemon Avenue,
