PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to bring the Commission up to date on web site progress. CONSIDERATIONS: A great deal of activity has taken place related to the development of City's web site. As you well know, there is a lot of behind the scenes work that must be done before a web site can or should be put up on the Internet. Much information must be gathered, assembled, moved around, reassembled, etc., to get the professional results that are needed for the City's web site. Here are several steps that have already been completed or are in the works: . General web site template (called a story board) created showing the various pages, sub pages, and links. This process takes place in the "concepts and design" phase. This is not set in stone and may changed at any time to accommodate the City's web site needs. . Contacting various web site developers for proposals to see if there is actually a need to go out for bid on this project. This process involves the careful selection of quality web site developers for consideration on this project as there are many companies doing web site development but all do not stay in business. This is a crucial element in the maintenance of the web site. This part has been done although as of Friday February 4thth, only 3 vendors have shown an interest in doing any development work with The City. These quotes are expected in during the week of February 7ili - 11 ili. On Monday, February 7ili two additional web developers contacted me and showed an Page 2 Agenda Item-Web site update February 14,2000 interest in doing some development for the City. I am working with them so that they too may furnish us with proposals on this project. . Information gathering from City departments (currently in progress and due back to me February 9th). This information will be needed in the latter stages of development when all information must be loaded onto the web site's individual pages. . It is extremely important that consideration be given to the following issues as individual components to the project: internet access (this is being worked on separately through the State of Florida state contract services), web site development, web site maintenance, domain name registration (already done), and web site hosting. . Estimates are that the web site can be up and functional within 4 weeks from the time the contract is awarded. A smaller informational contact web page can be up within 4 days of the contract award date. This informational contact web page would at least give the City a web presence. . I estimate that The City should have a web presence by April 1 st, 2000. FUNDING: N/A RECOMMENDATION: IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: COMMISSION ACTION:
