Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department request the City Commission deny the request of Central Florida United Soccer Club request to waive all fees for soccer field use and for a tournament on March 4 & 5 2000 to benefit recreational soccer teams. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to receive Commission denial for all fees to be waived for soccer field use for Central Florida United Soccer Club to conduct a tournament on March 4 &5, 2000 to benefit local recreational soccer teams. ISSUE ANALYSIS: . The Central Florida United Soccer Club's request to waive all fees for the District Commission's Cup Soccer Tournament which benefits the local recreational teams who do not play the very competitive type of soccer. . The City of Winter Springs City Commission approved on January 10,2000 the Safehouse of Seminole County's request top hold a fundraising soccer tournament and waive the fees and charges. . The City of Winter Springs Resolution #701 and Ordinance #635-A established Fees and Charges for various activities at Central Winds Park. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends denial of the request because there are many other non-profit organizations that provide worthwhile services to Winter Springs residents and this community. An exception should not be made to this policy at this time. 1 IMPLEMENT A TION SCHEDULE: N/A FUNDING: N/A A TT ACMENTS: Attachment #1- Attachment #2- Letter from Central Florida United Soccer Club Fees for Field Usage Request COMMISSION ACTION: Agenda97 2 SOCCER SOCCER Cl.UB 6964 ALOMA AVE WINTER PARK, FLORIDA 32792 407~7 FAX407~96-6188 Parks Director Central Winds Parks and Recreation State Road 434 Winter Springs, Florida 32708 Dear Central Winds Park Director, ATTACHMENT 11 This year, Central Florida United Soccer Club (CFU) has been selected to host the District Commissioner's Cup Soccer Tournament on March 4 and 5, 2000. Each year the District Commissioner, Suzy Reno, selec~s a IO'cal . soccer club or local community to host her tournament. The tournament is designed for local recreational soccer teams to get a taste of tournament competition at a level they can compete at. Many of the players will be coming from surrounding communities including the Winter Springs area. The entry fees are approximately $100.00, w~ch comes to approximately $5.00 a child. This fee is used to pay for referees, trophies, and mailing costs. Last year, Greater Central Florida Soccer League (GCF) hosted the D.C. Cup and paid the extra money to rent your facility. In the past, communities have donated their facilities for this event. CFU Soccer Club is asking that the City of Winter Springs Parks and Recreation consider . donating Central Winds Park soccer fields for this event.
