REQUEST: Utility Department is Requesting Approval for the purchase and installation of
three (3) new clarifier drive units for the wastewater treatment facilities.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request approval for the purchase and
installation of three (3) new clarifier drive units for the wastewater treatment
facilities from ACCU-TECH of Orlando, Florida at a total cost of $56,474.00.
CONSIDERATIONS:
This item is needed to ensure the reliability of the wastewater treatment process.
The Utility Department has two wastewater treatment facilities that each has two package
plants. The clarifier is the central settling basin of each of the package plants that separates
the solid and liquid components of the treatment process.
The clarifier has mechanical arms that rotate and sweep the settled solids into a
central collection point and also collect floatables. The arms are powered by a motor and
gears that make up the clarifier drive system. Failure of the clarifier drives immediately
cause the plant to "bulk" which means the solids enter the liquid stream. Retreatment is
required to correct the problem.
Staff budgeted for the replacement one of the clarifier drives last fiscal year which
improved treatment reliability. Replacements are budgeted for the 3 remaining clarifier
drives this year. ACCU- TECH of Orlando is the local representative for the package
plants. The material costs are $42,194 and the labor to install is $14,280.00, for a total cost
$56,474.00.

Clarifier Drive Assembly
FUNDING:
$35,400 is budgeted in the Utility Department line code 3600-62100 for the
replacements. The remaining $21,074 needed will come from the $150,000 Force Main
Rerouting which will not commence construction this year.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that approval be granted for the purchase and installation of the
three clarifier drive units for the wastewater treatment facilities from ACCU- TECH of
Orlando, Florida at a total cost of $56,474.00 plus 10% contingency payable from 3600-
62100.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
The purchase order will be issued upon approval by the City Commission.
