HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 03 12 Consent 203 Orlando Paving Company-Hubbard Construction Company COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 203 CONSENT March 12, 2007 Meeting MGR / DEPT Authorization REQUEST: Public Works Department Requesting Authorization to engage Orlando Paving Company, a division of Hubbard Construction Company for the resurfacing of various City streets. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request to engage Orlando Paving Company, a division of Hubbard Construction Company for $206,398 plus 10% contingency for the resurfacing of various City streets piggy backing Seminole County Contract RFP-4242-05/GMG. CONSIDERATIONS: This agenda item is needed to allow the Public Works Department to contract for resurfacing of City streets to extend their useful life. The budget for the street resurfacing this fiscal year is $200,000. The streets for resurfacing include; Sheoah Circle (Shepard to Galston), South Moss Road (434 to new bridge asphalt), Glen Eagle Drive (WSB to Eagle Nest Circle), Trotwood Boulevard (E) (Sybilwood to school pedestrian crossing). These roads were subjected to groundwater conditions that affected the asphalt wearing surface to the point of failure. The Public Works Department contracted the installation of underdrains on the right of way to intercept the groundwater and this required the removal of asphalt at the curb edge. This contract includes the removal and replacement of the existing asphalt wearing surface that would also facilitate the repairs to the curb edge asphalt. Orlando Paving Company currently has a term contract with Seminole County #RFP-4242-05/GMG and agreed to honor the same unit prices to the City. March 12, 2007 Consent Agenda Item 203 Page 2 FUNDING: The cost of the street resurfacing is $206,3 98 plus 10% contingency payable from the Transportation Improvement Fund - Capital Improvements line code (104-65000/30075). The budgeted amount for FY 06/07 is $200,000. This proposed resurfacing exceeds the current budgeted amount and would require a line code transfer form Transportation Improvement line code 104-65000-30073 - Underdrains in the amount of $20,640 for additional cost and the 10% contingency if needed. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that authorization be given to enter into agreement with Orlando Paving Company, a division of Hubbard Construction Company for $206,398 plus 10% by piggy backing Seminole County Contract RFP-4242- 05/GMG for the resurfacing of various City streets. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: The scope of work will be completed within 90 days of approval. ATTACHMENTS: None COMMISSION ACTION:
