Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department requests City Commission approval of a Commission Policy for Winter Springs Organization's Championship Signs. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to have a Commission Policy regarding Winter Springs Organization's Championship Signs. CONSIDERA TIONS: · A the January 26, 2007 City Commission meeting, the Babe Ruth Organization presented the State Champion Teams and requested award signage under city limit signs. · Parks and Recreation staff researched the request with a league representative. We believe the requests for this type of signage will be minimal. · Parks and Recreation recommends the following Commission Policy. · Winter Springs Organization Championship Signs: 1. To request a sign a Winter Springs Organization Championship group must be a State Champion, Regional (U.S.) Champion or National Champion (only 1) and not a runner-up 3rd place, etc. 2. The Winter Springs Organization must request in writing to Parks and Recreation for a sign(s) to be put up on a city limit sign(s). Consent Agenda Item 403 February 26, 2007 Page -2- 3. The organization will also state on which sign(s) they would like the championship sign(s) placed. The city will identify the officiallocation(s). 4. The organization will pay for the total cost to make the sign(s). 5. The city will design the sign(s) to comply with city codes including size and attractiveness. 6. The sign( s) will be put up for a period of one (1) year and then given back to the organization or placed in a location approved by Parks and Recreation at Central Winds Park. FUNDING: To be provided by the organization requesting the sign(s). RECOMMENDATIONS: Parks and Recreation Department recommends approval of the Commission Policy regarding Winter Springs Organization's Championship signs. ATTACHMENTS: None. COMMISSION ACTION:
