Authorization
REQUEST: City Manager requesting the City Commission to authorize the issuance of an RFP
for architectural services related to aesthetic review.
PURPOSE: This agenda item is needed to carry out the Commission's desire to expand the aesthetic
review procedures of the City related to new construction, and additions and alterations to existing
structures.
CONSIDERATIONS: At the December 11,2006 Commission meeting, the Commission expressed a
desire to expand the aesthetic review procedures of the City to provide for a more thorough and
objective review of buildings and landscape architecture in order to provide for a higher degree of
compatibility with surrounding buildings and landscape and better application of applicable City design
requirements.
The intent is to expedite this process by allowing the RFP to move forward while staff is preparing
policy for Commission review.
FUNDING: N/A.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission authorize the City Manager to
proceed with the preparation and issuance of an RFP for architectural services to assist staff in carrying
out an expanded program of aesthetic review, while staff is preparing policy statements for Commission
reVIew.
