Authorization REQUEST: Information Services wishes to inform and update Commission on various website initiatives and current offerings. PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to update Commission on the current website offerings as well as the various website initiatives. CONSIDERATIONS: The City of Winter Springs web site will soon be undergoing some major changes which will provide for more current information and an easier to understand navigation system. The Information Services Department has been working on improvements for the past couple of months. We will bring several mock-up options to the Commission in January. The City's website currently offers the following online services: • E-Alerts -online emergency notification system where users can sign up to receive emergency notifications on specific topics • Calendar -contains important meeting and event dates • Online utility bill payments • GovQA -away for citizens to make comments or requests to City staff and/or officials • Inspections & Permit Reports -allows the user to locate a permit by its number, an address, by owner name, by parcel number, etc. This is going to be replaced by our KivaNet online product. Once an update gets posted, the RSS Feed is instantly updated in your RSS reader and you'll know right away when the update is available. There are many free RSS readers,and they come built into programs like Outlook 2007, Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox. • Document Search -access to over 24,000 City documents consisting of over 200,000 pages dating back to 1959 o Agendas o Agenda Items o Minutes o Contracts o Grants o Liens o Ordinances o Historical documents o Many, many other documents • An improved website search function which searches both web site pages as well as PDF documents on the site. • Commission meeting audio with a direct link to each agenda item • KivaNet -Provides: o Access to land, permit, and inspection information to the public. o More timely information regarding the status of inspections, permits issued in subdivisions for homeowners associations, etc. o The elimination of two reports that were previously available via the document search function; creating these reports each week consumed valuable staff hours. This information is now automatically generated in KivaNet. • Accela Wireless - a mobile government application that extends processing capabilities to the field for inspections, code enforcement, and service requests. Inspections can be assigned, rescheduled, or canceled at the last minute or an alert can be sent automatically to the inspectors via the mobile device. Inspectors are able to enter inspection results directly into Kiva from the field. Code enforcement officers can view current parcel data or code violation history and can create new cases on the spot using the most current information available.
