REQUEST: City Manager requesting Commission designate a date for observance of Veterans
Day 2008.
PURPOSE: This agenda item is needed for the City Commission to designate a date for observance of
Veterans Day 2008.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On December 12, 2005 the Commission voted to amend the City's Holiday Schedule to include
observance of Veterans Day. The date on which Veterans Day is to be observed is specified in the City
Personnel Policy to be "as designated." The traditional date of Veterans Day is November 11. This
year, November 11 falls on a Tuesday.
When the Commission amended the Holiday Schedule in December of 2005, it expressed its intent to
mirror the policy of the State of Florida. The State of Florida is observing Veterans Day 2008 on
Tuesday, November II (the traditional date).
Additionally, a Tuesday November 11 th observation date would be consistent with the dedication of the
new Veterans and Military Services Memorial, scheduled for November 11,2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Commission designate a date for observance of Veterans Day 2008.
