Authorization REQUEST: Information Services wishes to inform the Commission of its options with the use of e-Alerts as an additional form of communication with residents and requests that the Commission make choices based on the information received. PURPOSE: To obtain Commission direction on the use of e-Alerts. CONSIDERATIONS: At the September 22, 2008 Commission Meeting, Information Services was asked to bring back recommendations or options regarding lists to be added to e-Alerts to which residents may subscribe in order to receive informational updates whenever new information becomes available. e-Alerts is currently being used to send emergency alerts to subscribers for the topics chosen by the subscriber. Our intent is to use the same system, add a new list for sending non-emergency alerts, and add topics of interest to that list to which people may subscribe. Each department would be required to submit new information to the help desk for submission to the e-Alerts system. When new information is posted to one of these topics, an alert will be sent to all the subscribers of that particular topic. When a user subscribes to this service, he/she chooses the topics within their chosen list that they wish to receive. When an alert is sent to the CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS CITY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING - OCTOBER 13, 2008 REGULAR AGENDA ITEM 603 PAGE 2 OF 3 subscriber, it will contain a link to the new document or web page where the new information can be found.
