Mgr. / Dept. Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the City Commission about the Hometown Harvest Special Event. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to inform the City Commission about the Hometown Harvest event and budget. CONSIDERATIONS: . The City Commission at the September 22,2008 meeting directed staff to proceed with the Hometown Harvest. . The City Commission at the August 25,2008 meeting directed staff to find a way to pay for the Winter Springs Hometown Harvest Special Event through sponsorships and advertising and make this event happen at no cost to the city. · An informal Parks and Recreation Special Event Committee coordinated by Chris Carson from Parks and Recreation has been meeting for the past month to plan and raise funds for the 3rd Annual Winter Springs Hometown Harvest. . As of October 1, 2008, there is a projected income of $9,200 and an expense of $9,200 to conduct the Hometown Harvest. . The country fun event will be held on Saturday, October 18,2008 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the street (North Tuskawilla and Blumberg Blvd.) in the Winter Springs Town Center and is free of charge. . The event will include the Southern Rock Band Project Bare Bonz, Mr. and Mrs. UCF, Edge Dance Studio, Winter Springs Performing Arts, Interactive Hayride, Kids activities including Hay Area, Chick-Fil-A Kids Zone, Pumpkin Painting, Stilt walkers, Face Painting, Balloon Artists, Jugglers, Farmers Market, and the Sunshine Community Thrift Store and Food Pantry would like all participants to bring non-perishable food items for the needy. . The event is hosted by Arnie Nussbaum and Dave and Leslie from Magic 107.7. FUNDING: Provided by projected income of $9,200 at no cost to the city. RECOMMENDATIONS: Informational Only. A TT ACHMENTS: Attachment #1 Flyer, Information Sheet, Expenses and Revenues COMMISSION ACTION: WINTER SPRINGS HOMETOWN HARVEST The City of Winter Springs invites you and your family to attend the Hometown Harvest on Saturday, Oct. 18,2008 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the street (North Tuskawilla and Blumberg Boulevard) of the Winter Springs Town Center. Put on your Jeans, Boots, and Western Duds and join us for lots of Country Fun. Park at the Winter Springs High School Parking Lot and head on over to the Town Center for a good ole Country Time. There will be plenty to do as there will be a Hayride for anyone whom appreciates a Night on the Town. Kids will have an opportunity to paint a Pumpkin to take home, have their Face Painted, and enjoy lots of Popcorn and Give-a- Ways. The very popular Kids Area returns to the Harvest as there will be obstacles of Hay to enjoy and Interactive Games to take part in as both the Winter Springs Rotary Club and Chic Fil A are the proud sponsors ofthese activities. Magic 107.7 FM will be on hand to start up the music and entertainment as Morning Show Personality, Dave Collins and Leslye Gail will introduce the Entertainment featuring Project Bare Bonz and performances by "Miss UCF" Audra Martin and "Mr. UCF" Alex Lord. A special group of dancers will also direct the dancing in the street crowd through several popular steps and moves. Speaking of dancing, the Edge Dance Studio of Lake will be presenting "Thriller". Also appearing, the Winter Springs Performing Arts will be offering their rendition of "Alice in the Wonderland". All the featured Entertainment will take place on the Main Stage located on Tuskawilla across from Beefo' Brady's from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. Grab a bite to eat and drink at any of the Town Center Restaurants and Vendors. The Sunshine Food Pantry will be on hand to collect Non Perishable Food Items to benefit areas of Seminole County. There is no cost for the event so bring the whole family and enjoy the fun.
