Authorization
REQUEST: Utility/Public Works Department Requesting Approval to award bid #ITB-
013/08/KL and enter into a contract to construct the two remaining
Utility/Public Works Storage Buildings.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request authorization to enter into a
contractual agreement with Conrad Construction, Inc. of Sanford in the amount of
$538,982.00 plus 10% contingency to construct two pre-engineered metal
buildings for storage.
CONSIDERATIONS:
This project is needed to provide the facilities necessary for the operations
activities of the Utility/Public Works Department through the build out of the City. This
project was publicly advertised as bid #ITB 013/08/KL. Seven bids were opened on
August 27, 2008 with Conrad Construction, Inc. being the lowest with a bid of
$538,982.00. The bid summary prepared by the Purchasing Coordinator is attached.
Conrad Construction provided information that was requested relative to similar
experience, current work load, resumes of key personnel, list of subcontractors, and
references. All information checked out and Conrad is the lowest qualified bidder.
The scope of work includes the construction of two pre-engineering metal
buildings, #6 and #7, with secure storage areas virtually identical to the two which were
completed in 2007. This completes the storage buildings in the master plan. The
buildings will be used to provide covered storage for the City's heavy equipment (grader,
dump truck, bucket truck, etc.). We anticipate having sufficient area to provide some
storage for other departments such as the Police generator trailer and special events

FUNDING:
Sufficient funding for this project is available in the Utility/Public Works Capital
Project Fund - 311-65000-30037.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that authorization be given to enter into a contractual
agreement with Conrad Construction, Inc. of Ruby Builders Inc, in the amount of
$538,982.00 plus 10% contingency ($53,898.20) payable from line code 311-65000-
30037.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
The scope of work will be completed within approximately 180 days of issuance of
the Notice to Proceed.
