HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008 09 17 Document Given to Commission by Corey Green During Public InputDate: September 17, 2008 The attached document was given to the city Commission by Mr. Corey Green during "Public Input" at the September 17, 2008 City Commission Workshop. September 17th 2008 Dear Commissioner, I would like to bring your attention to a hardship which has been passed onto Winter Spring's firefighters with family/dependant health care coverage. As you are aware beginning Oct 2°d our firefighters will begin health care coverage under Seminole County's health insurance plan. New Seminole County employees generally have to wait 30 days before health insurance kicks in. During this time employees would pay premiums but not have coverage for 30 days. Seminole County has graciously picked up the cost for employees for this gap, however, not the family/dependant coverage. This is forcing our firefighters with families to pay an additional monthly premium as charted below. Employee and child $244.40/month Employee and spouse $264.58/month Employee and family $516.92/month So in addition to paying our October premiums we will. have to pay September premiums over 4 pay cycles, basically paying double premiums for the month of September. This has been one of the unforeseen problems with consolidating services and should,be considered a cost of doing business born by the employer, not the employee. Please consider appropriating the required funds to cover this dependant medical coverage cost. Thank you, Corey Green r Winte Springs Firefighter
