Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting City Commission approval to accept a check from the Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to request that the Commission accept a check in the amount of $5,946.93 for improvements to be made at Sam Smith Park. CONSIDERATIONS: • Parks and Recreation staff met with Pam Carroll, Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association President and Mary Brook, Tuscawilla Pioneer Garden Club President ~• several times discussing proposed improvements to Sam Smith Park. • The Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association Board of Directors voted to make a donation to the City of Winter Springs to be used for improvements at Sam Smith Park. • Parks and Recreation has obtained bids to: o Remove (8) eight large Palmetto stumps o Purchase (2) two - 6 ft. picnic tables and (4) four benches o Purchase and install (3) three 65 gal. Oak trees. • Tuscawilla Homeowners Association President Pam Carroll will present the check for $5,946.93 to the City. • Parks and Recreation staff will coordinate the purchase, installation and completion of the project. • The enhancements through the generosity of the Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association and the Tuscawilla Pioneer Garden Club will benefit the families who continue to use the beautiful Winter Springs Sam Smith Park. FUNDING: Total $5,946.93 to the Parks Account 7230-54682 and 64000. R. 434 Winter Springs, FL 32708 Dear Mayor Bush and Commissioners: The Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association's Board of Directors voted to make a donation to the City of Winter Springs to be used for improvements at Sam Smith Park, in Tuscawilla. Chuck Pula has met with Mary Brook, Pioneer Garden Club and Pam Carroll, to review the improvements which include the following: a) $1,000.00 for Removal of (8) eight Palmettos/stumps by Budget Tree Service, Inc. (see copy of bid attached). b) $3,896.93 to purchase and add: (2) two six foot long picnic tables and (4) four benches. (see copy of bid attached). c) $1,050.00 to purchase (installation included), (3) 65 gallon, 4" caliper live oak trees - to increase the shade at the upper playground area. (see copy of bid attached). On behalf of the Tuscawilla Homeowners' Association, please find our check in the amount of $5,946.93 to cover these improvements. It is our sincere belief that these enhancements will benefit the families who continue to enjoy this beautiful City park.
