REQUEST: Utility Department Requesting Approval to piggyback off the Florida
Sheriffs Association Bid Award 07-15-0827 for the purchase two (2) 45KW
Generators.
PURPOSE: The purpose ofthis Board item is to request approval to piggyback off the Sheriffs
Association Bid Award 07-15-0827 Specification #063 for the purchase oftwo (2)
45KW Generator from Tradewinds Power Corp at a cost of$66,960.00.
CONSIDERATIONS:
These two fixed location generators are needed to provide emergency power for key
wastewater lift stations in the City during power outages. Currently, the Utility Department has
four portable generators and three portable pumps that are used as needed if power outages occur
at any of the 40 lift stations in the City. Utility staffhas identified the top 6 lift stations where a
permanent generator would improve the level of service during power outages based on flow
volume and accessibility.
The first two locations for the installations budgeted this year are LS 5E (Winter Springs
Boulevard at Howell Creek bridge) and LS 2E (Power Easement in Oak Forest between
Chokecherry/March Hare). It is our intent to budget 2 generators per year for the next two years
to complete key lift stations. The need for additional generators would then be evaluated on a
case by case basis.
The Florida Sheriffs Association awarded Bid #07-15-0827 Specification #063 to
Tradewinds Power Corp for 45 KW generators which meet our needs. The terms and scope of
the purchase are substantially similar to the piggyback bid.

FUNDING:
Sufficient funds are budgeted and available under line code 3600- 62100.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that approval be granted to piggyback off the Sheriffs
Association Bid Award 07-15-0827 Specification #063 for the purchase of two (2) 45KW
Generators from Tradewinds Power Corp at a cost of $66,960.00 payable from Utility
Enterprise Fund 3600-62100.
IMPLEMENT A TION SCHEDULE:
The purchase order will be submitted upon approval by the City Commission.
