Recently a paper rag titled The Outsider made its way to our residents _ homes. The contents are half truths, innuendos, and excerpts from writings and recorded material that are taken "out of context" by singling out one or two lines from the document in order to obfuscate the issues and confuse the reader. The reader of course not being aware of the entire content of the document from whence the excerpts were taken. This conflictive and irrational reporting consists of issues that go back to-_ December 8, 1997 and which have been settled by the City Commission tin a very professional fashion. The citizens responsible for this "yellow journalism" further propose to take over the duties and obligations of your elected officials and have endowed themselves with the power to form a committee of self elected individuals who purport to supplant the powers of your elected officials by pursuing 13 amendments to the City charter to the extent of asking the intelligent electorate to approve an amendment authorizing a committee of citizens appointed by them to investigate government administration and operation. Isn't this ludicrous? Don't we have government agencies charged with this responsibility? Haven't we stated on the record because of the continuous pressure by the Mayor to amend the City Charter, stated that as soon as we finish the Town Center and annexation issues we were going to schedule public hearings in order to intelligently and professionally travel with you; the citizens through the City Charter and modernize it by means of amendments publicly heard and endorsed by the citizens of this great City. If we are going to permit a group of disenfranchised citizens to run the City from without, we might as well throw the Charter away, do away with elected officials, do away with public hearings on matters that affect all of us and allow the individuals with the most muscle to run the City as they see fit Ladies and gentlemen these tactics do not belong in our beautiful City of 29,000 people;a city brimming with the possibility of becoming the most desired topography in Seminole County to call home, Please do not be taken in by "yellow journalism"
