Despite consistent and strong growth, the region's economy remains largely dependent on our tourism industry. While this thriving part of our economy has brought immeasurable benefits, over-reliance on any one industry sector is not a good recipe for "smart" growth and sustained prosperity. The need for economic diversification is much discussed, but the reality will require more than talk. It must be a true priority for all of us. To succeed in an increasingly competitive global marketplace, we must work together to create high-wage, high-value jobs and to further diversify our industry base. Long-term, community-wide commitment is essential to ensuring quality growth that produces prosperity and raises living standards for all citizens. WHY INVEST IN THE EDC? Your investment matters because results matter. In economic development, results mean people get jobs. Their income increases. Their quality of life improves. They build things, pay taxes, raise families and invest. These are the kinds of results we work for. The EDC spearheads a variety of strategies designed to create amulti-faceted identity for Metro Orlando and to generate quality prospects for our business development efforts. We develop effective, comprehensive business intelligence, focused on competitive factors and targets. And, we work closely with our region's business and civic leaders to turn this information into real results. When you become a "member" of an organization, it is usually because of the benefits that organization can provide to you. While there are many benefits you receive when joining the EDC, when you invest in this organization you become a partner in the growth of the region. EDC investors share a long term commitment to building a prosperous and diverse business community. OUR PASSION IS BUILDING A BETTER COMMUNITY. The Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC) is anot-for-profit, private/public partnership leading the economic development efforts of Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties and the City of Orlando. This organization is dedicated to helping to create and sustain a prosperous and diverse business community. Our charge is two-fold. To attract new business investment, we market the Orlando region worldwide as a top location for business. In addition, we work with local companies to assist with expansion plans and other business concerns. In both endeavors, the participation of our many community partners is vital to our success. Our record is strong. Since 1977, EDC efforts have directly resulted in more than $9 billion in community investment; 156,000 jobs created or retained; and nearly 75 million square feet of office and industrial space leased or constructed.
