HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970 09 28 Village Council Workshop MinutesWORKSHOP SESSION VILLAGE, COUNCIL VILLAGEIOF NORTH ORLANDO SEPTEMBER 28, 1970 The Workshop Session of the Village Council of the Village of North Orlando, Florida was called to order by Mayor Jordan at 7:33 p.m. A Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was led by Mr. DelVillaggio. On Roll Call the following were present: Mayor, Clifford Jordan Councilmen: Vice Mayor Pasquale DelVillaggio Charles Kelley Attorney, Thomas Freeman, Jr. Charles Rowell Richard Allen Of the twenty-eight applications received, the Mayor suggested selecting five to be interviewed for the position of Building Inspector. Mr. Gordan Jarrell, Mr. Gaede, Mr. Maheau and/Vice PresidEn t of Florida Public Utilities were present to speak for Florida Public Utilities for a franchise with the Village of North Orlando. They stated they were ready, willing and able to serve the Village, and that lines were already in effect to Seminole Junior College. Rates are under the jurisdiction f the state Public Service Commission. They said there was no shortage of natural gas, and if the need arose, they would out off the interruptables first. Mr. John Durney and Jon S. Zern were present for Suburban Propane. After much discussion, it was decided to grant a franchise to Fla. Public Utilities, giving the Village added revenue and enabling the customer to choose whichever company he wishes. This would be discussed further at our next regular Council Meeting. It was decided not to change the Election Ordinance, but to set up a Charter Review Committee, to study our charter and make all the necessary revisions at one time. The Mayor asked the Councilmen to submit one name each at the November Council Meeting, so that this Committee would have at .least three months to discuss and study the present charter, make the necessary changes, and have them up before the legislature when it meets in February.
