MARCH 18, 1968 A Special Session of the Village Council of the Village of North Orlando met at 7:40 P.M. in the Village Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor George Fuller. The group joined in a Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Roll Call: Mayor George Fuller Vice-Mayor Jay Wetz Attorney, Tom Freeman All present. Councilmen: Charles Rowell Granville Brown l.llen Cronk David Jenkins The State of Florida has increased the taxes on cigarettes. In order to benefit from the increased revenue the Village must adopt an ~endment to the present Ordinance of the Village, already adopted; Ordinance #23, the Cigarette Tax. The Florida League of Municipalities sent a copy of the amended Ordinance they wished everyone to adopt. Mr. Freeman read, in its entirety, amended Ordinance #23, the cigarette tax: "AMENDMENT TO ~ ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE' OF NORTH ORLANDO, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE TAXES IMPOSED UPON TEE SALE, RECEIPT, PURCHASE, POSSESSION, CONSUMPTION, HANDLING, DISTRIBUTION AND USE OF CIGARETTES IN THE VILLAGE OF NORTH ORLANDO, FLORIDA, PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF." MOTION WAS MADE BY MR.WETZ and seconded by Mr. Brown to accept Amended Ordinance #23. Discussion. Unanimously approved by Council. Motion was made by Mr. Wetz to place on the agenda for second reading, by title only, ~ended Ordinance #23, the cigarette tax. Seconded by Mr. Rowell and unanimously approved by Council. Mr. Freeman read Amended Ordinance #23, for second reading, by title only. Motion was made by Mr. Rowell and seconded by Mr. Jenkins to accept for second reading, by title only, ~ended Ordinance #23. Motion was made by Mr. Brown to place on the agenda for third and final reading, by title only, &mended Ordinance #23, tlJ,r cig....t'ette tax. Seconded by Mr. Cronk and unanimously approved by Council. Mr. Freeman read Amended Ordinance #23, by title only, for third and final reading. Motion was made by Mr. Rowell to accept for third and final reading, by title only, Amemded Ordinance #23, the cigarette tax. Seconded by Mr. Brown and unanimously approved by Council. -- ~ .. PAGE 2 MARCH 18, 1968 Motion was made by Mr. Wetz for authorization from the Council ~, to spend up to $80.00 for radio equipment for the Chief's houBe and the Police Cruiser. Ibis would be FM and VHF. The equipment for the house would be purchased from Dave Tilson and the equpment for the cnuiser from LaFayette Radio Equipment Company. Seconded by Mr. Rowell. Discussion: Only 1 station can be ~eceived at a time. Best to keep tuned to Sheriff's office. Will be able to reoeive but cannot transmit. This motion was unanimously approved by Council. Mr. Cronk announced that 12 Flambeua and some flares had been dona~ed to the Village. The first school bus driver in the morning is finally stopping at the stop sign at the corner of David and Sherry.
