",,' - Fred E. and Mally I.Salter 171 N.Devon Ave. NORTH Orlando, Fla. 32707 r To: The Council of the Village of NORTH Orlando, Florida, Seminole County. June 6th , 1966 We - Fred E. and Mally I.Salter - Citi~ens of the Village of NORTH ORLANO, Fla., request, that this -our answer to a statement made by Mayor Fuller at the special Coun~il meeting on May 31.1966, be entered into the minutes of this Council meeting on June 6. 1966. At our lenghtly visit with Sen.Cleveland on June 2. 1966 we were definitely ,,,.... assured by Sen.Cleveland that, never at any time during his meeting with Mayor Fuller, on Friday May~ 1966, did the Senator accuse us of lying. In fact, Sen. Cleveland mentioned that the articles in the Sentinel and the Sanford Herald - - concerning the petition for defranchising of the Village of NORTH ORLANDO, - are very much in agreement with what tramspired at our /.., L:.1=T /Ak; fi~ with Sen.Cleveland in April 1966. Concerning the Article in the Corner Cupboard on May 26. 1966, which Mayor Fuller referred to, Sen. Cleveland tried very much to emphasize to Mayor Fuller duri~ their meeting, and we quote: NOT TO GO DOWN THERE AND CALL ANY ONE A LIER; since the report of 50% of the residents' signature could have come from some one misquoting or committing an error in reporting. A mention of 50 % has never been made by us at any time to anyone. Instead .",-.. we always emphasized: the large majority. ~ - 1I .. _ ... .. ~ "'.... - ~- - 2 - ,,-. Sen.Cleveland again reiterated - should the petition for defranchising show the overwhelming majority of the people of the Village of NORTH Orlando, he would w~ith other Members of the Legislature hold a publick hearing to be reassured about the sentiments of the people and then determine the further action to be'~takent since it would not be wise, not to comply with the wishes of the majority of the people. Again we were assured, that if at any time either of us had any que~tions or need any help, concerning the above mentioned activity, to feel free at any time to call on Sen.Cleveland. Also, should it become necessary, because of any further developments such as false accusations and misquoted statemen~ Sen.Cleveland offered to write a letter to the Council to be r- read to the Citizens or, if necessary to attend a Council meeting in person to clarify the whole situation once and for all. And now, we like to paraphase Mayor Fullers statement made at the spec. Council meeting on June 2. 1966 regarding all the above mentionedl OUR ANSWER WILL NOT BE OPEN FOR ANY DISCUSSION - BUT INDEED SHOULD GIVE EVERY ONE VERY MUCH SO, SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. ......~~....... ~1.d2.~. ~
