HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962 01 09 Village Council Regular Minutes PROCEEDINGS AT COUNCIL MEETING VILLAGE OF NORTH ORLANDO, FLORIDA JANUARY 9, 1962, at 8:00 P.M. Mayor Fasula called the meeting to order. In attendance were: Mayor Fasula, Councilmen Memory, Stripling and Webster. The Village Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting held December 5, 1961. Mayor Fasula called for any corrections or additions. Hearing none, the minutes were approved as read. The Mayor called for any committee reports, but none were made. The Mayor then brought up the subject of the coming election of councilmen in March and some matters in connection with can- didates' petitions and registration of voters. He gave the following outline of necessary requirements for candidates and stated that a resolution would be presented at the next Council meeting. He stated that there would be no qualification fees for those candidates running for election, but that there would be some requirements, however, according to the charter. The candidate must have a properly signed petition, signed by ten qualified, registered voters, and the petition must state what group he is running in, II or IV, place of residence, age and address. To qualify as a candidate, he must be a resident of Florida one year and of North Orlando six months. The election will be on the third Tuesday in March, which is March 20th. Candidates must file their petitions between the 16th and 28th days of February with the Clerk. To vote a person must be a resident of Florida one year and of North Orlando six months, ""'- c~",~~j but does not have to be a registered/Zoter. Registration hours will be from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Mondays through Fridays, February 1st through February 28th. On the dates of February 16th and 28th, voters may register in the evening between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. The Mayor also stated it was intended that the Village would ask for a voting machine to be used for the election. He also stated that he would be glad to have representatives of the various organizations to assist with the election. Mayor Fasula also announced with pleasure that construction on the new store in the shopping center was under way, and that it was expected to be ready within the next four to six weeks.
