HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961 11 07 Village Council Regular Minutes \ ~ ---, .".,...... PROCEEDINGS AT COUNCIL MEETING VILLAGE OF NORTH ORLANDO, FLORIDA NOVEMBER 7, 1961, at 8:00 P.M. Mayor Fasula called the meeting to order. In attendance were: Mayor Fasula, Councilmen Memory, Stripling, Terebo and Webster. The Village Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting held September 5, 1961. Mayor Fasula called for any corrections or additions. Hearing none, the minutes were approved as read. There was no Council meeting in October due to lack of quorum. The Mayor called for any reports. None were given, except that Mr. Stephenson stated that a Christmas program was under way. j"'-" Mayor Fasula reported that a state engineer's report recom- mends that the approaches to the Village on the Longwood-Oviedo I' Road be lighted every 300 feet to the Village limits, and then every 150 feet through the Village. The Mayor also announced that approval has been given from the State Highway Department for beautification of the Longwood- Oviedo Road as soon as the widening is completed. Councilman Webster read a letter from the Post Office Depart- ment written by Mr. Belen, Assistant Postmaster General, in which he stated that at the present time the department did not find that the Village was ready for a new post office, but that when a shopping center has been completed, that consideration would be given to ,-- establishing a branch office of the Casselberry Post Office in the Village. ,"-" ~ '" .. The Mayor announced that property across from the Village I""'" Hall had recently been sold for the purpose of building a shopping center, with the provision that construction get under way within 30 days, and that within 90 days after commencing construction, that the first buildings must be completed. He stated that there was room for five stores to be built, and that the first ones to be constructed would be a food store and a laundromat. That the property owners would also like to have a lease for a barber shop and a beauty shop in the center. The Mayor also stated that the plans called for two rows of parking at the shopping center. He presented a set of plans for the stores, which was examined by those present at the meeting. The Mayor also stated that the County Commission had taken - under advisement the request of the Village for a light at the inter- / section of Highway 17-92 and Longwood Oviedo Road. The Mayor also stated that the North Orlando Company is working on a plan for street lighting in the Village.
