In attendance were Messrs. Terebo and Memory. "'f.'\'\ , SUBJECT: Whether the people of North Orlando wantfiprotection and if so, are they willing to pay for it. . "to SUMYARY: When A.B. Ward and Elmer Lane DBA Security Patrol organized the company, they held a door to door survey in several areas to obtain a general idea of how the residents felt about having police patroling and protecting the area. The majority were in favor of it and signed the petition to a pay a fee of $1.50 per month.. The company has been operating for a month and a half and the job they have done is certainly commendable. They have proved the value of their services and its need but the resi- dents have not filled their part of the bargain. The last billing, the department sent out over 100 bills and has received only 2 of these back. MR. WEBSTER: We are meeting tonight to find some way to retain the police department in our village and decide a satisfactory way of their financing themselves with the approval of the council and village. - MR. ANDERSON: What about the township paying a percentage of the fines to the department? MR. WEBSTER:- The fines go into the village account which they must do and should a percent then come out and go to the po1i~e, the village will become involved with a private company. MR. BEAN: Is it true that before a North Orlando policemen can serve in the homes out of the corporate zones, he must be deputized a county deputy? PATROLMAN PARKER: He must be deputized first as you say but before he can be deputized, he must prove his abilities to Sheriff Hobby of Seminole County first. COUNCIIMAN TEREBO: Why not apply a 3% on the dollar tax on the utility company? In other words for every dollar they receive from the residents, they p~y 3% to the police. COUNCILMAN WEBSTER:- I cannot see taxing a company that has a million and a half plant invested and trying to make a go of it. MRS. PERKINS: It appears that all suggestions thus far have been eliminated and with good reason therefore I suggest we hold this meeting Tuesday evening, March 7 which is the regular council me.ting. At this time we will have a full quorWll present. MR. WEBSTER: I agree and motion this meeting be adjourned. MR. TEREBO: I second the motion. Respectfully submitted pat e harrill
