Authorization REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting that the City Commission consider approval of the Winter Springs Easter Egg Hunt and expenses. PURPOSE: This agenda item is needed for the City Commission to consider the Winter Springs Easter Egg Hunt and expenses. CONSIDERATIONS: • The last 3 years the Parks and Recreation Department has worked with Radio Station Magic 107.7 and the Covenant Community Church to conduct a large regional Easter Egg Hunt. It has grown each year and over 10,000 parents and children attend. • The large event provides Winter Springs residents with many free and fun activities for their family and also attracts other families to come to Winter Springs. • The event is scheduled from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Central Winds Park. • Free activities include: Egg Hunts for crawlers through 5th graders, eggs, moonwalks, cotton candy, snow cones, games, prizes and over 18,000 Easter Eggs. • Radio Station Magic 107.7 and the Covenant Community Church provide over 30 volunteers to set up, work and clean up the entire Easter Egg Hunt Event. They also provide all the games (activities), free give away items and food. Easter Egg Hunt Expenses 2009 Police Overtime (Parking, Security, Traffic) $2,700 Stage and sound $1, 800 Restroom Trailers $1,000 Train Ride $ 400 Message Board/Banner/Signs $ 200 TOTAL $6,100 Agenda Item Regular 604 February 9, 2009 Page 2 FUNDING: Total: $6,100 $3,400 Budgeted in Acct. #7240-54800 $2,700 Police Overtime (Funds are available in the Police Budget. However, should the need arise, funds may need to be requested later.) RECOMMENDATIONS: The Parks and Recreation Department request that the City Commission consider approval of the Winter Springs Easter Egg Hunt and expenses. ATTACHMENTS: None COMMISSION ACTION:
