HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 01 26 Consent 204 Ranchlands Property Owner Poll/Pave RoadsCOMMISSION AGENDA CONSENT I X INFORMATIONAL ITEM 204 PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR January 26, 2009 MGR /DEPT ~~` Meeting Authorization REQUEST: The Public Works Department requests City Commission approval of a process for conducting a straw poll of property owners in the Ranchlands to determine the level of interest in having the existing dirt roads paved PURPOSE: The Public Works Department requests City Commission approval of a process for conducting a straw poll of property owners in the Ranchlands to determine the level of interest in having the existing dirt roads paved CONSIDERATIONS: • The Ranchlands paving program was listed as a specific project in the voter-approved One-Cent Sales Tax referendum in 2001. Paving is currently scheduled in two phases, with the first phase in the current fiscal year and the second phase next year. The project has an estimated cost of $1.4 million and would be funded by the Roadway Improvement Fund (One-Cent Sales Tax). Staff recommends conducting anon-binding straw poll to determine the level of public interest in the Ranchlands paving program. The straw poll would be mailed to all property owners abutting the dirt roads proposed for paving. The planned process and timeline for the straw poll and reporting of results is as follows: o Commission review and approval of straw ballot and informational flyer -Feb 23 o Straw Ballot Mailed -Early March o Public Information Meeting -Mid-March o Straw Poll Return Deadline -Late March o Report Results to City Commission -April FUNDING: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Commission approve the process outlined above for conducting a straw poll of property owners in the Ranchlands.
