Authorization
REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is notifying the City Commission of
the status of the Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program
Grarirregarding Magnolia Park.
SYNOPSIS: The Magnolia Park FRDAP Grand has scored high enough to be funded up
to $200,000. However, the DEP which has $6,000,000 budgeted for FRDAP
Grants is not recommending funding for any projects. The Florida legislature
will decide if they wish to spend the budgeted funds on FRDAP projects this
year.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On August 24, 2009, the Commission approved the submission of a Florida Recreational
Development Assistance Program Grant to the State of Florida, Department of
Environmental Protection for Magnolia Park.
The City of Winter Springs Magnolia Park scored #11 out of 218 large projects
submitted.
However, the DEP which has $6,000,000 budgeted for FRDAP Grants is not
recommending funding for any projects.
The Florida legislature will decide if they wish to spend the budgeted funds on FRDAP
projects this year.
The Magnolia Park project includes large outdoor amphitheater with lighting, sound,
dressing and restrooms, fixed and open seating, bike trail connection and landscaping.
If this grant is awarded, the city will have received Ten (10) FRDAP grants for a total of
$1,950,000.00 in FRDAP grants over a 9 -year period.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Magnolia Park project is budgeted in the 09/10 budget at $1,188,750, Acct. #305 65000
70008. The FRDAP Grant currently is $200,000 if approved by the legislature. It would be an
addition to the project and could be used however the city wishes.
