REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department is notifying the City Commission of
the Departments and FLOP intent to schedule the official grand opening of
the Winter Springs Permanent Hound Ground (Dog Park).
PURPOSE: The Parks and Recreation Department and FLOP (Friends of Leash Optional
Parks) need to set a date months in advance so sponsors, vendors and events
can be secured for the official grand opening to the Dog Park.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On August 24, 2009, the City Commission approved the execution of an amendment
to the FRDAP Agreement to provide $75,000 in State funding and $25,000 in City
funding to construct a permanent Dog Park.
Construction is under way with the trees, shad structures, and power, etc. and
progressing well.
Parks and Recreation at this time believes the permanent Hound Ground will be
totally completed and ready for public use by March 27, 2009.
FLOP (Friends of Leash Optional Parks) have been diligently seeking vendors,
sponsors and events for a grand opening and need to have a set date.
City will promote on its website and eCitizen. FLOP will promote through emails,
conversations with dog fanciers and pet related businesses.
FUNDING:
All necessary funding for the promotion and ceremony is being provided by FLOP. No City
expenditures for the Grand Opening.
RECOMMENDATION:
Informational only.
