PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to notify the City Commission that a $30,000 local Cost-Share grant has been awarded to the Stormwater Utility for a water quality improvement project to the Wade Street outfall. CONSIDERATIONS: The Stormwater Division has been notified by the St. Johns River Water Management District that the City's application for a local Cost-Share grant in the amount of $30,000 has been approved. The funds will be used to construct a debris structure at the Wade Street outfall. This structure will improve water quality by controlling silt and debris originating from the Meadowlark subdivision for which there is currently no treatment to the stormwater runoff. In addition to the retrofit project, the stormwater personnel on March 18t11 will be coordinating a public relations project with the SJRWMD and Winter Springs High School. This project consists of installing drainage inlet markers and painting "Drains to Lake" on approximately 45 catch basins throughout the City. The goal is to raise public awareness of the relationship between stormwater and water quality and also serve as an educational tool for the participating students. Information Agenda A March 8, 1999 Page 2 FUNDING: The grant will be used to match the $30,000 currently budgeted in the Stormwater capital improvements line code for this project. IMPLEMENTATION: A proposal for engineering design and permitting from CPH Engineers, Inc. has been solicited. Prior to bidding the formal agreement governing the terms and conditions of the grant will be in place. Construction is proj ected to occur September 1, 1999. ATTACHMENTS: 1. We received 25 excellent applications requesting over $700,000 for this $300,000 program. It is my pleasure to announce that your application for the Cross Creek Water Quality Improvements project was recommended for funding through this program in this fiscal year. Our Governing Board has approved the recommendation of allocating $30,000 for your project. Please give me a written response by March 5,1999, for acceptance of this grant. With your written confirmation, I will work with our contract office to develop a formal agreement that will govern the terms and conditions of the grant.
