HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998 12 07 Regular Item C COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM C Consent Informational Public Hearing Regular X December 7, 1998 Meeting REQUEST: City Manager requesting the City Commission to approve the proposed distribution of the sick leave buy back program. PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to have the City Commission approve a distribution policy for distribution of sick leave buy back program. The Commission approved $50,000 to establish a sick leave buy back program in the FY 99 budget to accomplish three objectives. 1. Stop sick leave abuse. 2. Limit the growth of sick leave balances. 3. Begin buying- down the City's liability of large sick leave balances. Staff has reduced several alternatives to the two attached alternatives for further consideration. Alternative "A" would effectively reduce sick leave abuse, would stabilize the growth of sick leave balances, but would not reduce the large balances accrued by some employees. Alternative "B" would effectively reduce sick leave abuse, limit the growth of sick leave balances, and begin to reduce the large balances held by some employees. However, Alternative "B" would cost. substantially more than the $50,000 set aside in the budget.
