CONSIDERATIONS: This agenda item is needed to identify a funding source for the bike lane striping project. A policy was adopted at the September 28th City Commission meeting that a road should have a travel lane width of ten feet in each direction in order for a four foot bike/pedestrian lane to be designated. Currently, there are two collector roadways, Winter Springs Boulevard and Sheoah Boulevard, which have striping to designate a non-vehicular lane. Other roads which have the 24 foot minimum recommended width include portions of Hayes Road, Shore Road, Alton Road, Dolphin Road, Moss Road, South Edgemon Avenue, Shepard Road, Trotwood Boulevard, Northern Way, Tuscora Drive, Greenbriar Lane, Seneca Boulevard, and Vistawilla Drive. The cost for striping is approximately $0:38 per foot for thermoplastic striping. The aforementioned roads which meet the criteria, excluding Winter Springs Boulevard and Sheoah Boulevard, represent approximately 90,000 linear feet. The estimated cost to thermoplastic stripe all these roads is $34,200 plus 10% for designating symbols. October 12, 1998 Regular Agenda Item A Page 2 FUNDING ALTERNATIVES: The following are several alternatives to fund the $38,000 needed to complete the project: 1. Allocate $38,000 from General Fund Reserves. 2. Allocate $38,000 from General Fund Reserves after the FY 1997/1998 audit is completed. 3. Budget $38,000 for striping in the FY 199912000 budget. RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended that the City Commission select alternative #2 which allocates the $38,000 from the General Fund Reserves after completion of the FY 1997/1998 audit.
