Author' REQUEST: The Community Development Department - Planning Division is pleased to inform the Commission that the City's application for $ 2,365,080 for enhancement of the S.R. 434 Redevelopment Area transportation corridor has been approved. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board Item is to inform the Commission that on September 9, 1998 the MetroPlan Governing Board approved the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) which includes enhancement funds for the City of Winter Springs in the amount of $ 2,365,080 for transportation improvements to the S.R. 434 Corridor Redevelopment Area between U.S. 17/92 to S.R. 419. APPLICABLE LAW AND PUBLIC POLICY: The provisions of subsections (h)(2) and (1)(4) of Section 134 of Title 23, United States Code (as amended by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991) which requires a Transportation Improvement Program be prepared and approved by a designated metropolitan transportation organization (MPO) The TIP has been prepared in accordance with Title 23CFR Part 450 and Title 49 CFR Part 613. SEPTEMBER 14,1998 INFORMATIONAL AGENDA ITEM D Page 2 CONSIDERA TIONS: · On September 9, 1998, the MetroPlan Governing Board approved the City's enhancement application for funds to improve the transportation corridor within the S.R. 434 Corridor Redevelopment Area. The approved amount totals $ 2,365,080. · The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) does not have sufficient "Box Funds" in its transportation improvement prioritization program to completely fund the three (3) projects included in the 2003 TIP Prioritized Project List. · As a result, a meeting will be scheduled with FDOT to discuss estimated costs for the S.R. 434 Corridor Enhancement Project and establish a priority-phasing plan. · It may be possible for the City to front-end unfunded phases during early years and receive reimbursement as funds are allocated for transportation improvement projects. · Staffwill seek Commission direction as soon as the City's options are identified. COMMISSION ACTION:
