Authorization I 23 March 1998 REQUEST: The Fire Department requests that the City Commission review the information relative to the questions raised by Mr. Stephen Dudra, President, Tuskawilla Trails Homeowners Association, during the City Commission meeting held on 3/9/98. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to inform the City Commission of the actions taken by the Fire Department to respond to the citizens needs. CONSIDERATIONS: . Mr. Stephen Dudra, 1094 Cheyenne Trail, President of the Tuskawilla Trails Homeowners Association addressed the City Commission on 3/9/98 during public input. Mr. Dudra asked about tornado and/or other severe weather warnings and also where citizens could take shelter. Mayor Partyka stated that the City Manager and staff are working on that subject. · During the City Manager/Department Head staff meeting on 3/10/98 a decision was made to contact Mr. Dudra to discuss his concerns. During the telephone conversation, Mr. Dudra was given information relative to the questions addressed at the City Commission meeting. It was offered to Mr. Dudra that the Fire Chief and Training Officer would address the Homeowners Association to answer any questions and to present material on disaster preparedness. Mr. Dudra asked if we could attend the Board of Directors meeting on 3/12/98 and address the board. That meeting was attended by the Fire Chief and Training Officer. A good discussion was held relative to preparedness for all different kinds of disasters and the assistance that would be provided. Material was distributed to the Board Members and public in attendance. , March 23, 1998 Informational Agenda Item B Page 2 An additional meeting with the full Homeowners Association was scheduled for a disaster preparedness presentation. This meeting will be held at the Tuskawilla Trails Clubhouse on 3/24/98 at 7:30 pm.. Additionally the association has requested the Fire Departments attendance on 3/21/98 to an event where representatives who secure (tie down) manufactured housing will be in attendance to assist residents whose homes are not secured properly. Our pwpose will be to distribute information and answer any questions that the residents may have on disaster preparedness. FUNDING: No additional funding is required for this activity. RECOMMENDATION: Informational only. The Fire Department will meet with any individuals or groups to discuss disaster preparedness. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: The Fire Department will be conducting a disaster preparedness discussion at the Tuskawilla Trails Homeowners Association Meeting at 7:30 pm, on Tuesday, March 24, 1998.
